DESCRIPTION:So you’ve completed one of Camarillo Health Care District’s Intro VR classes or you already have experience in VR\, then you’re invited to join the District’s intermediate class Independent Adventures\, where the world is your oyster. In Independent Adventures\, you’ll be assigned a VR headset with pre-loaded apps. You can choose virtual travel\, guided Tai Chi or meditation\, cook in a virtual kitchen\, go on “photo assignment” in Antarctica or Machu Picchu\, Peru\, experience heightened senses with Notes on Blindness\, or snorkel or hangout in nature with animals\, listen to concerts\, take a ride on a rollercoaster and more! A staff member will be available to help troubleshoot any issues with the equipment or apps\, or give you tips and tricks on navigating to the place you want to go. \nCost: $10 per session (non-district residents add $4)

If this is your first time to using Oculus/Meta 2 virtual reality headsets and controllers\, no worries. Our facilitators will spend 20-25 minutes showing you how to use them\, plus discussing the benefits of VR. The next 50 minutes will be spent enjoying our adventures before we all chat about our experiences and document our travel adventures in our Adventures in VR passport. SUMMARY:Dementia Live simulation experience
DESCRIPTION:Dementia Live is a high-impact\, dementia simulation experience that immerses participants into life with dementia\, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change. At the Camarillo Health Care District\, participants are outfitted in specialized gear and given a series of tasks to perform. The challenges and struggles one faces become very real to the participant\, triggering heightened empathy and understanding\, creating a catalyst for meaningful communication and improving quality of care. We currently have three offerings. Friday\, May 17\, between 9 a.m. and noon (1-hour long; sign up for 9\, 10 or 11 a.m.) There is no charge. Call 805-388-1952 to participate.

DESCRIPTION:Do you feel lost when it comes to social media? Or do you primarily use one platform\, but want to understand others so you can connect with more family\, friends or colleagues\, or understand pop culture better? If the answer is yes\, then Camarillo Health Care District’s Social Media Basics class is for you. \nA facilitator will share an overview of the main platforms: Facebook\, X (Twitter)\, Instagram\, LinkedIn\, SnapChat and TikTok/Clapper during the first week. The following week\, you’ll learn more specifically what each platform is used for and the mechanics of using each. We’ll also discuss why hashtags are important on some social networking sites\, how to search for specific content and connect with people\, businesses and organizations. DESCRIPTION:Are you of the generation that didn’t grow up learning PowerPoint or Google Slides in school? If so\, this introductory class on using Google Slides for slide shows may be of interest at Camarillo Health Care District. Google Slides is similar to PowerPoint\, but is free and included with a Google mail account. If you don’t have gmail\, you’ll want to set up an account before this class. \nIn this two-part class\, you’ll learn how to use the tool to create a photo slideshow of your past travels or create a presentation. We’ll teach you how to add your own photos or photos and graphics from the internet; add shapes and icons; change colors; build from scratch or use a template; add transitions; animate objects; embed on a website or blog; and collaborate in the cloud in real time.
