Join ‘A Salute To Our Troops’ on Flag Day

There’s no better place to be on Flag Day than at “A Salute To Our Troops,” an event by America Supporting Americans, Greater Conejo Valley Chapter, in the Janss Market Place in Thousand Oaks.

Moving Seniors Forward, a community resource group made up of compassionate professionals providing guidance and information that enhance the lives of seniors and their families, is a Silver Sponsor of the event.

A band, bagpiper, bugler, singer and color guard will join guest speakers and military personnel at the tribute. The public is invited to attend 10:30-11:30 a.m. on June 14 in the courtyard area near the theaters at Janss Marketplace, where America Supporting Americans is located. Festivities will include recognition of the 248th anniversary of when the American flag was adopted in 1777 and 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. A flag display honoring active military members and veterans will make up Heroes Park.

Following the ceremonies, light refreshments will be served in the ASA storefront. Activities will be set up for the public to participate in, including writing letters and making cards for the troops. There also will be raffles, prizes and volunteer opportunities. Observe volunteers preparing care packages to send to U.S. troops overseas.

“In the last 10 years, ASA has sent over 5,000 care packages to our troops. Our goal is to raise their morale higher than the clouds,” said Jim Sumner of America Supporting Americans Greater Conejo Valley Chapter and a member of Moving Seniors Forward.

To purchase a flag for the hero in your life, visit ASA’s website. Tribute flags are available for $25 and will be featured in Heroes Park on June 14. All proceeds from flag sales will support the organization and its efforts of sending care packages to U.S. military troops.
